      <image:title>Gattsy on Goosebumps - Please; stay spooky.</image:title>
<image:caption>Crawl under the doona and turn off all the lights; we’re going through every single book in RL Stine’s preteen-horror series. Join me as I explore the good (‘Night of the Living Dummy II’), the bad (‘Beware the Snowman’) and the downright baffling (I’m still unsure what exactly was going on in ‘Legend of the Lost Legend’) in the most iconic name in nostalgic spookiness. Do they hold up? Were they as chilling as I remember? Will reviewing books from my childhood starve-off the existential dread I face on a daily basis? Let’s find out! This is Gattsy on Goosebumps.</image:caption>

Zaharoff, despite his powerful political connections, was a controversial figure in his own time, gaining the nickname ‘The Merchant of Death’, owing to his preeminence in the international arms trade. <image:caption>As a nice little piece of fictional-history, Herge includes a statue of one General Olivaro, liberator of San Theodoros. Olivaro is probably based on Simón Bolívar (1783-1830), who led liberation movements against the Spanish in many South American nations, including Bolivia, which was named after him and served as one of the main inspirations for the fictional San Theodoros.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In the original French, the Arumbaya spoke a language phonetically-similar to the Bruxellois-Brussels dialect Herge was very familiar with. In the English translations, however, this is change to the London-based cockney dialect. As such, when one of the Arumbaya accidentally hit Tintin with a golf ball, Professor Ridgewell responds: "Cor, luv-a-duck! I told you to hit the flipping ball into the hole! And I don’t mean his flipping ear hole!”</image:caption>

<image:caption>Philippe Goddin asserts that the globe-trotting Danish boy scout Palle Huld would have directly or indirectly inspired Norbert Wallez and Herge. While he is never directly cited as an inspiration by either man, Huld—only 15 at the time of his travels—does seem like a real-life Tintin, making headlines only a year before Herge put pencil to paper. Photograph and description from The Real Tintin: Rare Vintage Photos of Palle Huld, a Teenage Boy Who Travel Around the World in 44 Days in 1928. “In 1928 the Danish newspaper Politiken held a competition in honor of Jules Verne, the prize being, rather fittingly, an around the world trip. The competition was open only to teenaged boys who would be assisted to circumnavigate the globe in 46 days unaccompanied and by using any means of transportation with the exception of aviation. Fifteen year old Palle Huld from Hellerup was chosen as the winner from hundreds of applications. On March 1, 1928 he left Denmark and traveled through England, Scotland, Canada, Japan, Korea, China (Manchuria), the Soviet Union, Poland and Germany. In 44 days he made it back to Copenhagen to the cheers of a crowd of twenty-thousand. Shortly after his homecoming he made an additional journey (now mostly dressed in his scout uniform) to Sweden, England (where he met Baden-Powell) and France (where he laid a bouquet of flowers at the grave of Jules Verne).”</image:caption>

<image:caption>A podcast for the things you didn’t know you and frankly didn’t need to know. Latterature is also the proud home of one of the most unique—and dangerous—minds of our generation. Known for his acerbic wit and sardonic nihilism, Lex Whiskey is the multi-talented influencer and intellectual bad-boy here to deliver a harsh dose of reality to a world of smart phones and dumb people. Whiskey may not be good for your liver, but Lex Whiskey will do wonders for you mind. Fancy a glass?</image:caption>
